With our partner organisations, City of Sanctuary Sheffield are working hard to ensure that people seeking sanctuary in the city remain connected and supported during these difficult times.
As part of this work, we are trying to raise funds to enable the children of people seeking sanctuary, who cannot now go to school, to continue their education at home. Schools are currently only open to the children of key workers in essential industries, so the children of asylum seekers are receiving no formal schooling at all.
We have worked out that in South Yorkshire there are close to 400 children, in over 100 households, who can’t go to school. Our aim is to enable them to learn at home by providing a laptop to each family with school aged children (5–18). We will also source the internet allowance and the remote IT support needed.
Can you offer any financial support to help towards raising the money to pay for 100 laptops? In total, we need £30,000. We are fundraising with our supporters and exploring all avenues possible to meet this extraordinary need. We have made an encouraging start, with £4,500 pledged so far.
