Half marathon boost to Welcome Centre appeal

David's half-marathon

City of Sanctuary Sheffield’s Welcome Centre appeal received a boost at the weekend when supporter David Mount clocked up more than £1800 in donations for completing the Yorkshire half marathon. Despite the unusually warm weather David (aged 63) shaved 35 seconds off his previous personal best over the 13-mile route up to Ringinglow and back to the Town Hall.   He’s been running the race since 2010, but took a rest last year after breaking his leg while training.  The fund-raising effort brings the total raised so far to about £35k of the £55k needed to bid for the lease of the city centre premises that would serve as an advice centre and social space for asylum seekers & refugees.
