City of Sanctuary UK supports a network of over 100 local and grassroots groups contributing to building the movement for welcome and inclusion in the UK. We promote understanding, recognition and celebration of the ways in which people seeking sanctuary enrich British society. CoS UK develops and offers resources to CoS groups to help them support welcome in their local context; CoS UK also provides opportunities for the network to share best practice and organises regular conferences, webinars, and facilitated conversations on a range of topics related to sanctuary, welcome, and advocacy. We actively work to increase the voice of those with lived experience in the network and movement, most notably through our Sanctuary Ambassadors and the Sanctuary in Politics course.
We also work closely with mainstream institutions like schools, libraries, theatres/arts organisations, colleges, universities, healthcare organisations to identify ways that they can provide practical support to people seeking sanctuary and extend welcome in their communities. We offer sanctuary awards to organisations which demonstrate welcome.
