Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and local representatives expressed their support for the City of Sanctuary movement at their regional conference in Sheffield.  Mr Corbyn stopped by our stand to check out the state of the movement – now totaling around 60 groups around the UK and Ireland.  Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield discussed with City of Sanctuary volunteer Ahmed Malla, and Richard Bruce, how Sheffield University could get involved in migration debates and engage as a University of Sanctuary.  And local MEP Linda McAvan commented: “Yorkshire and Humber’s example of building a culture of hospitality and welcome through City of Sanctuary groups is one we need across Britain and indeed across the European Union. We have the biggest humanitarian crisis since World War 2 and many local people are very generous in wanting to help. City of Sanctuary projects deserve support from government and the EU.”
