Meeting: Resist Rwanda Removals in our Communities

Whilst the government pushes hostility, our communities must respond with compassion. The Government must repeal the Rwanda Act and abandon all plans to outsource the UK’s asylum responsibilities to other countries, and we must protect people who need safety here as part of our communities.

This week, the government announced that it will start detaining people who are seeking safety, for them to be forcibly removed to Rwanda. This has spread fear in our communities.

We want to make sure people have accurate and up-to-date information about who will be affected, and what they can do. Right now, this is one of the most powerful things we can do.

We also want to coordinate what actions we can take in our city to effectively resist these plans. Our powerful, caring communities must stand together in solidarity with people seeking sanctuary.

Join us tomorrow evening. People seeking sanctuary and organisations/ individuals wanting to build a community response are all welcome.

There will be a short information presentation by South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice, followed by an open discussion led by Migrants Organise and City of Sanctuary Sheffield.

Please note, this is an information-sharing session, it is not legal advice. If you require 1-1 legal advice there will be a solicitor at The Multi-Agency Drop- In on Wednesday the 1st and 15th of May. Victoria Hall, Sheffield, S1 2JB. 1pm-3.30pm.
