Magid Magid, the former Lord Mayor of Sheffield and MEP for Yorkshire and Humber, came to Sheffield with his mother and siblings as refugees from Somalia. Since his departure from being an MEP due to Brexit, he has written and released a book (The Art of Disruption: A Manifesto For Real Change) and currently heads up a new pan-European organisation that is dedicated to racial justice and climate justice. He has now joined City of Sanctuary Sheffield as the new co-chair of the board of trustees.
Magid said “I’m truly honoured to be taking on this role at such a crucial time. City of Sanctuary Sheffield is an exceptional charity that plays an integral role in supporting all those that are seeking refuge. We have a great team and an excellent vision, and I look forward to playing my part to continue to make Sheffield the warm and welcoming place it is.”
Tom, Director of City of Sanctuary Sheffield said “We are absolutely delighted to have Magid as our new co-chair at City of Sanctuary Sheffield. He is one of the brightest and most exciting leaders in the country at the moment and will bring with him a wealth of experience that will help us fulfill our vision of making Sheffield a warm and welcoming city for people seeking sanctuary.”
