Sheffield University’s magnificent Firth Hall was filled to brimming with local people wanting to find out what they could do to help refugees fleeing Syria and other war torn countries. Around 300 people turned up to learn how they could contribute, and where best to direct their efforts. The meeting was arranged by asylum-supporting organisations such as City of Sanctuary, ASSIST and Voluntary Action Sheffield in response to the many offers of help from local people and groups.
