Sheffield MP wins detention champion award

Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield has been given an award in recognition of his Parliamentary work advocating for detention reform. The “Detention Forum Champion” award was presented to Mr Blomfield at a special celebratory Iftar event prepared by a local Sudanese refugee. In a speech thanking the MP, she said โ€œI have learned recently that you have been fighting for me, for others like me, on immigration detention reform in the UK. Youโ€™ve worked hard to make the system here better, more humane. Youโ€™ve been the voice in Parliament to the voiceless, the terrified, the traumatised and the unjustly treated who deserve to be treated justly. There is a time to fight and there is a time to rest, to take stock of the many accomplishments of oneโ€™s work and really appreciate those who are champions for and to so many.โ€
