City of Sanctuary Sheffield (COSS) is launching an appeal for an exciting new project to provide an international place of welcome in the city centre. The need for such a place was highlighted following the closure of Northern Refugee Centre, a review of Asylum Needs, and conversations with asylum seekers and refugees. The development has been coordinated by partners including ASSIST, British Red Cross, Citizens Advice, Voluntary Action Sheffield and City of Sanctuary Sheffield (COSS). A suitable premises has become available and COSS is pulling together a bid, which involves raising around £50k to secure the lease and fit it out for the first phase of use. We anticipate ongoing running costs being met by user fees and funding from charitable trusts. An appeal will be launched on Thursday 6th April, 6-8pm at Victoria Hall Methodist Church, and all are invited. If you would like to find out more, or make a donation, please contact [email protected]
