Oasis becomes first School of Sanctuary

Congratulations to the staff and students at Oasis Academy Watermead, on becoming Sheffield’s first School of Sanctuary.  Over the past few months the school has been working on the key criteria needed to get this special status, by learning about asylum and how to be a place that welcomes everyone, especially those seeking sanctuary.  Next the school proceeded to embed the ethos of welcome into its activities, and finally to share its practices with others.  The award, in the form of a certificate, was handed over to the school’s Headteacher, Mrs Goodhand, at an assembly attended by 150 pupils, their teachers and some of their parents, by the Chair of City of Sanctuary Sheffield, Dr Mike Reynolds.
